She died having never told her story, other than to remark to one of her granddaughters how sad it had made her when they cut her hair. My grandmother, Sarah Robertson, attended Norway House Indian Residential School in the 1920s and early 1930s. He originally posted the list on Twitter, and repurposed it for CBC Books. In 2021, Robertson curated this list of books by Indigenous writers about residential schools. Why the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation isn't just another stat holiday 30, Canada will mark its second National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, a time to commemorate children who died while being forced to attend residential schools, those who survived and made it home, their families and communities still affected by the lasting trauma. Here is a thread of books, thanks to all who listed them over the last week (1/?)- Sept. There's no excuse not to know the history or its impact. Stories have played, & will continue to play, a role in educating Canadians, young & old, about the terrible legacy of Residential Schools.

6/30/2023 0 Comments Indigo by alice hoffmanAll in all, it was a nice evening's entertainment. Alice Hoffman has high acclaim as an author, including this book, but I was a little disappointed, thinking it may have been better aimed toward the ages 8-10 market. Most early teenage girls that I've known fantasize about hand-holding and first kisses. I don't think that is realistic thinking of a thirteen-year-old girl. Martha is attracted to Trout, but states that they are "too young" to proceed with that kind of relationship. I say thirteen because that is how old the protagonist is, but with the run on sentences and the grammar/vocabulary I don't think she hits the mark. Water Tales: Aquamarine and Indigo Alice Hoffman 3.64 777 ratings88 reviews If you haven't encountered Alice Hoffman's watery fairy tales of modern magic, dive in Aquamarine The tide brings in something unexpected that will change best friends Claire and Haley's last summer together. It felt like an adult trying (and failing) to write from a thirteen-year-old's prospective. It is an imaginative read, but I wasn't impressed with the way the book was written. The story is set around Martha, whose mother had died, and her two friends, who are brothers, Trout and Eel. Indigo by Alice Hoffman is set in a mythical town of Oak Grove, blocked off from water since the "big flood" several years before. I think their love story and the details behind their choices/characters finally revealed is the best climax to the series. I love finally getting the full story of these two characters after several books full of tidbits & teasers. It is one of my favorites out of all of them honestly, if not my favorite story actually (I really liked most of the books in this series, loved a few of them). I can say this having finished reading all but two in this series. I really felt their emotions through the pages and love them together. I cried a little, laughed more and fell for Lyon. I love their love story! I highly recommend this book and think it is so powerful and touching. 6/28/2023 0 Comments Mine katy evans pdfWE’RE in a suite at The Jefferson Hotel where Benton Carlisle, the campaign manager, is smoking his second pack of Camels by the open window. I thought it was going to be a lighthearted and fun story, but it gets really deep and intense. I honestly had no idea how dark and sad that this manga would become at times.
